Limiting federal national disaster relief
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Emergency management officials in the Trump administration are now in talks in regarding to reforms that could shift more disaster responsibilities to affected states.
FEMA's administrator issued a memo listing recommendations that would result in the White House reducing their number of emergency declarations that it will approve and how much federal assistance would be handed out.
The memo also called for at least the threshold for states needed to reach in order to qualify for public assistance. So far, there's no word yet if the White House is interested in following these proposals.
There are some lawmakers who are in support of this idea of easing the federal government's burden to aid state stricken with national disasters.
