House unanimously passes “Take It Down Act”
WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The House passed a bipartisan bill Monday aimed at combating deepfake pornography.
The "Take It Down Act" sailed through the House in a 409-2 vote and President Donald Trump is expected to sign the measure into law.
It passed by unanimous consent in Senate earlier this year.
The "Take It Down Act" would criminalize publishing nonconsensual, sexually explicit images and videos including those generated by AI, as well as require platforms to remove the content within 48 hours of notice.
Still, it has drawn some opponents with digital rights groups raising concerns that the measure as currently drafted could threaten free speech and privacy rights.
