Mia Love, the first Black Republican Congresswoman, dies at 49
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Mia Love, the first Black Republican Congresswoman, passed away Sunday after a long battle with an aggressive brain cancer.
The 49-year-old's family announced her passing on X, saying she "slipped the bands of mortality and soared heavenward" while surrounded by family.
Love was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer in 2022.
She announced earlier this month that her cancer treatment was no longer working.
The former Congresswoman surpassed her previous prognosis of only having 10 to 15 months to live, and credited her Mormon faith for helping her preservere as long as she did.
