Utah governor on gender-affirming care, social media, and other issues

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Utah Governor Spencer Cox (UT-R) says the state doesn't have an end date for its pause on gender-affirming care, telling Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan he's looking to European countries for guidance, where he says conversations on the issue are "not quite as charged" as in the U.S.

"Looking at at Sweden and Finland and France and the UK, other countries where they don't have the same culture war battles that we're having here, where it's, you know, it's either too political or you know, you can't say anything about it, to see what they're finding out. And they're also pushing pause," Cox explained.

The pair also discussed what Utah is doing with social media, becoming the first state to restrict social media access by minors. Cox said, "I'm sure we'll have social media companies suing the state of Utah," but he also went on to say, "we're going to be suing social media companies for the harm and damage that they're causing our young people."

During the interview, Brennan asked Cox what he was going to do to address the issue of guns and gun control since Brennan mentioned that Cox is attending the National Governors Association on the East Coast.

"Well, we're working as a bipartisan group of governors, we actually formed a subcommittee. I'm a part of that subcommittee. Several other governors, Republicans and Democrats, working together. We've been working with Congress having conversations, trying to figure out what we can do. And I don't know that anybody's figured out the answer to this one yet. Certainly, I haven't seen it if they have, but we know that it's getting worse. We know that they're trying to get at the root problem...And that's certainly an issue," Cox remarked.
