Mike Pompeo to sit out the 2024 election for GOP nomination

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Republican Mike Pompeo says he will "not" run for president in 2024.

Pompeo served as Secretary of State and CIA director under former President Donald Trump.

Running would have put him in direct competition with his former boss for the Republican nomination.

Pompeo says his decision "not" to run was a personal one, saying the time is not right.
