Arizona Special Primary Election: What Yuma voters should know before they vote
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Special Primary Election is happening Tuesday, and voters across Yuma County will have their voices heard on who advances to the General Election in September.
In Yuma County, final preparations are underway as voters get ready to cast their ballots in the July 15 Primary.
The candidates are running to replace the late Congressman Raul Grijalva. These include five Democrats, three Republicans, candidates from other parties and several write-ins.
Over 5,000 locals voted early and more ballots are still coming in.
"We have 5,073 that have already voted. 81 people voted in-person. They came into the office...into the lobby, and there were 4,982 that mailed their ballots or dropped them off in the dropbox," said David Lara, Yuma County Recorder.
Yuma County says any registered voters can vote at any voting center in the county, and if you still have your early ballot, you can drop it off at any location until the voting centers close, but be sure to bring a valid I.D.
Lara reminds locals of one common mistake: "Do not mail it because we will not receive it. It has to be at one of the polling places, or the dropbox, or [at the Recorder's Office] before 7."
For some voters, like Sandra Haifley, the challenge hasn't been where or when to vote, but feeling uninformed about the candidates on the ballot.
"I would've like a little bit more, but they didn't tell me anything really...they told me a name and so on," Haifley expressed.
Voting centers open starting at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday until 7:00 p.m. For more information on where to find the closest voting center near you, click here.
