Yuma County approves new $552M budget

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County has approved a $552 million budget for the new fiscal year, down from $571 million last year.

The budget will fund projects like the new administration building downtown, a major remodel of the Health District building, a new transfer station in South County, and park upgrades.

"This is a conservative, sound, fiscally sustainable budget that funds numerous projects…without increasing the property tax rate," said Ian McGaughey, County Administrator.

No new positions were added, but current staff will get a 3% raise.

"We thought it was prudent to just hold the line, and maximize our current employees," McGaughey said.

McGaughey added that cuts in grant funding, especially to the Health District, could affect some services.

"We're gonna have to evaluate whether those programs are things we can continue with internal funding," he said.
