Locals participate in nationwide “Hands-Off” protest
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Residents across Yuma County participated in the "Hands-Off" protest Saturday morning.
The protest happened at 10:00 a.m. on the corners of Fourth Avenue and 16th Street, near Sprouts and Del Sol Market.
The protest, which is a nationwide event, is in response to President Donald Trump's policies such as healthcare, Social Security, civil rights, education, as well as Elon Musk and DOGE's involvement.
KYMA spoke to a couple of protesters who shared their reasons as to why they participated in Saturday's protest.
"I wanted to show support for the Democrats because they're kind of getting a bad name...They're not doing enough," said Gayle Meckem, a protester.
"90% of the agriculture in the winter comes from Yuma, and our farmers need to be supported, and we're supporting our farmers in Yuma," said Ramey Weber, another protester.
El Centro and Brawley also had a similar protests Saturday, which were held in the following locations:
- El Centro: United States Postal Service
- Brawley: Brawley DMV
According to Hands-Off 2025, they were projecting about three million people participated in the protest nationwide.
One of the organizers said they expected over 300 people would participate in the protest.
