Senator Bernie Sanders makes unexpected appearance at Coachella Music Festival

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) made an unexpected appearance at the Coachella Music Festival this weekend.

The senator's staff posted a photo online showing Sanders addressing the huge crowd as he introduced Clairo to the stage.

During his remarks, Sanders called on concertgoers to be more active in the political process, and said he was there to show is support for Clairo because she "has used her prominence to fight for women's rights" and to call for and end to the "brutal war in Gaza."

Sanders also held a rally in Los Angeles this past weekend, where he was joined by U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), to call out policies instituted by President Donald Trump's administration.
