Sen. Mark Kelly ‘seriously considers’ White House run in 2028
(CBS, KYMA) - Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) said he'll "seriously consider" running for president in 2028 as he battles the Trump Administration over a video where he urged military personnel to refuse illegal orders.
Sen. Kelly, who was accused of "seditious behavior" by President Donald Trump over the November clip, said he and his wife, Gabrielle Giffords, received "many" death threats after the president's comments.
"We get them on a weekly basis now," he told BBC Newsnight. "We had to get security to protect us 24 hours a day."
When asked if he was considering a White House run, Kelly said he was considering it "because we're in some seriously challenging times."
"I will, obviously, think about this. It's a serious decision. I just haven't made it yet," Kelly added.
This comes almost one week since a federal judge blocked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth from punishing the senator over his participation in the video, as well as a federal grand jury declining to indict Kelly and other Democratic lawmakers.
