(KYMA) - Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) will finally be sworn into Congress Wednesday, seven weeks after winning September's Special General Election.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to administer the oath just before the House votes on a bill to reopen the government.
Rep.-Elect Grijalva says she's relieved after the weeks of delay, adding that her first vote will be on a measure that she says does nothing to improve affordable health care.
The swearing-in had been postponed as the House remained out of session, prompting criticism from Democrats who argued the delay was unnecessary.
Grijalva is set to fill the seat left vacant by her father, the late Congressman Raul Grijalva.
