State and federal lawmakers react to Adelita Grijalva’s win

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Lawmakers across the country are sharing their reaction to Adelita Grijalva winning Tuesday's Special Primary Election.

Grijalva defeated her Democratic opponents, Deja Foxx, Daniel Hernandez, Patrick Harris and Jose Malvido, Tuesday.

Hernandez conceded the election to Grijalva, issuing a statement saying:

"I want to congratulate Adelita Grijalva on her victory [Tuesday] and encourage everyone who supported me to unite behind them in September. We must come together to protect Arizona from the extremism of the Trump administration and Republican-controlled Congress.

Most importantly, thank you to our incredible supporters, volunteers, and voters who believed in our vision for Arizona and stood with us every step of the way, especially through those hot days of door knocking. While [Tuesday]'s results weren't what we hoped for, I am deeply proud of this campaign and our commitment to Arizona families and the resources they depend on.

The fight doesn't end here. As a lifelong Arizonan, I'll continue to work for the people of our state—for access to healthcare, strong public schools, and equal rights for all."

She will run for the seat left vacant by her father, the late Congressman Raul Grijalva, against Daniel Butierez, who won the Republican ticket against Jorge Rivas and Jimmy Rodriguez, in the General Election happening in September.

Following the victory, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) posted to X, congratulating Grijalva on her victory saying in part, "As a lifelong public servant and someone who has always been dedicated to her community, Adelita's voice is exactly what we need in Washington."

Arizona Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) also posted to X saying, "Adelita is our official Democratic nominee in #AZ07, and this September, we're going to make her the first Latina to represent our state in the House of Representatives. This is a big win for Arizona!"

Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) posted to X saying, "Congrats to my amiga @AdelitaForAZ!"

Other lawmakers across the country shared their reaction to Grijalva's victory:
