Governor Hobbs signs bipartisan fiscal year 2026 budget into law
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Governor Katie Hobbs signed the bipartisan fiscal year 2026 budget into law Friday.
The Senate and House Republicans have reached a bipartisan deal on the state budget. Coming in at over $17 billion, the budget plan adds new funding toward areas like transportation, health and welfare, water, and education.
It also looks at tax cuts for small businesses and new funding for K-12 education. Over $90 million is put toward new investments in public safety with a 15% pay raise for state firefighters and a 4% one-time bonus for correctional officers.
Senator Tim Dunn shares his reaction on the deal that averted a state government shutdown.
"This has been a good bipartisan balanced budget that we were able to put together working over the last couple of weeks this year, since the session started. And it reflects the needs of Arizona, and I know the governor will sign. It is on her desk this afternoon, and so I'm proud to be a part of it and supporting it," said Dunn
