Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego announces immigration plan
(KYMA, KECY) - Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has released a new plan to address the broken border and immigration system.
His five-pillar framework is called "Securing the Border and Fueling Economic Prosperity," which is said to strengthen border security and restore order to communities, as well as bring "immigrants out of the shadows."
Senator Gallego's plan includes the following pillars:
- Hiring and retaining Border Patrol agents, investing in port infrastructure and expanding drug detection technology
- Expediting the asylum process
- Expanding legal immigration pathways
- Provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers
- Address the root causes of migration
Gallego said, "We don't have to choose between border security and immigration reform. We can and should do both. Americans deserve the right to feel safe know their border is secure, but for decades, Congress has tried and failed to take action because politics got in the way. It’s time to push forward and enact a plan that works."
