Arizona lawmakers pass Stolen Valor Act
PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona lawmakers passed a new bill cracking down on those who falsely claim military service for personal gain.
Senate Bill 1424, also known as the Stolen Valor Act, makes it a crime to knowingly lie about serving in the military or receiving honors in order to obtain jobs, benefits, or other Veteran specific privileges.
The measure, led by State Representative Walt Blackman (R-District 7), aims to protect the integrity of military service and hold imposters accountable.
In addition, the law would give the state and local prosecutors the power to pursue those who falsely claim the honor of service for personal gain.
The bill is now on Governor Katie Hobbs' desk, waiting to be signed.
