State legislators representing Yuma County come together for Town Hall
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) -Â State legislators representing Yuma County, Republican and Democatic Representatives Tim Dunn, Michael Carbone, Michelle Pena and Mariana Sandoval, along with State Senators Sine Kerr and Brian Fernandez, come together for Town Hall to discuss the last legislative session.
They're focused on how they can make Yuma County better and be able to discuss bills and share the latest update on the state budget.
"We may disagree on policy, on the road to get there, but we actually do get along and respect each other," Sandoval expressed.
Water, healthcare, and one of the hottest topic of the evening discussed: The Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESAs), which Sandoval says she's against the program, saying it is negatively affecting the state's public schools.
"If I ruled the world, I would restructure the private vounter program because that was half of our budget deficent last session," Sandoval remarked.
On the other hand, Carbone says parents should be able to choose what schools their children attend, adding, "If I feel like my school, my district is not doing fit for my kids I can make that choice, I had to echo that."
Matias Rosales, a San Luis resident running for office, hopes to be participate in the town hall next year saying, "Now that we are in election year, everyone obviously has questions about education, how the state is doing and what kind of policies are being done at the legislature."
Rosales also shared what he is focused on: "I am going to be focused on economic growth for our district and also the education, its very important here for our community."
Everyone, except Senator Kerr, is running this November to continue representing Yuma County.
