New poll has Sinema sinking

(KYMA, KECY) - The conventional wisdom on the Sen. Kyrsten Sinema party switch is that she'd be the candidate to beat in the 2024 senate election.

But a new poll from Public Policy Polling says that can't be further from the truth.

Say what you will about Kari Lake's intense commitment to victory even after votes were tallied, but she is currently in first place with 41% of the vote should she run.

And say what you will about the Democrats anemic popularity in Arizona, but Democratic congressman Ruben Gallego is also looking strong, polling just a point behind at 40%.

As for the incumbent? Senator Sinema nets only 13% amongst respondents. If Sinema were to drop out, Lake would be one point behind Gallego.

Of course, the nomination battle is far from set. Gallego is already raising money for his bid and has all but announced. But Congressman Greg Stanton, a Democrat representing areas just east of phoenix, is looking at throwing his hat in the ring as well.

KYMA will keep you updated as this wild and crowded race rolls on.
