15 week abortion ban passed by Arizona House

Doctors could face felony charges if an abortion is carried out after the allotted time

(KYMA, KECY/ABC) - Arizona Legislation made the decision to pass a bill which outlaws abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy during a debate and vote on Thursday morning.

Arizona has joined many Republican states such as Mississippi and Florida who have also passed strict abortion laws.

The bill says it does not replace a state law already in place that would ban abortion if the federal government were to do so.

There will also be no exception for rape or incest.

House Democrats voiced that the bill is unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, State Senator Nancy Barto (R-AZ) commented that it is the state's "obligation to protect life".

Gov. Doug Ducey will now decide whether to sign the bill into law.
