Sanders declared winner in New Hampshire
Pete Buttigieg finishes in a close second place - NBC's Jay Gray reports
MANCHESTER, N.H. (KYMA, KECY) NBC News has declared Bernie Sanders the winner of the New Hampshire Democratic primary election.
Sanders won the state's seven largest cities. He edged out Pete Buttigieg by just 4,000 votes, or a margin of less than two percentage points.
Senator Amy Klobuchar surged to finish in third place. Followed by Elizabeth Warren, and Joe Biden in a disappointing fifth place.
Biden left New Hampshire surprisingly early Tuesday. The former Vice-President headed for South Carolina where he hopes to fare better in that state's February 29th primary.
Poor showings in New Hampshire prompted two Democratic hopefuls to abandon their campaigns. Businessman Andrew Yang, and Senator Michael Bennet, (D) Colorado, both ended their candidacies Tuesday night.
In spite of Sanders' victory, Buttigieg currently leads the delegate count after Iowa and New Hampshire. He's followed by Sanders, Warren, Klobuchar, and Biden.
