Democratic Presidential hopefuls face off in New Hampshire
Eighth debate precedes first in the nation primary - NBC News' Jay Gray reports
MANCHESTER, NH (KYMA, KECY/NBC News) - With their party still stinging from the caucus breakdown in Iowa, the Democratic Presidential hopefuls are in New Hampshire for their eight debate.
Friday night's debate will be different than those before, framed by the problems in Iowa, with the primary in just four days.
Amid the snow and slush of New Hampshire, the real mess for Democrats continues to be the caucus collapse in Iowa.
"It's just put more emphasis on New Hampshire." said New Hampshire voter Thomas Brown.
The Granite State is now in the spotlight.
"Iowa, sorry , move over, we got this. we'll take care of it." said Amy Chom, a Manchester resident.
Pete Buttigieg and Senator Bernie Sanders both claim victory in Iowa.
"Obviously we feel a lot of momentum coming here." said Buttigieg.
"We won by over 6000 votes." claimed Sanders.
Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden are looking to fight back.
"I'm not going to sugar coat it we took a gut punch in Iowa." said former Vice-President Biden.
The battle about to take place in a state that takes its first-in-the-nation status very seriously.
"We love politics, we sit here and chat politics all the time. Most states have football, basketball, hockey, but New Hampshire, our sport is politics." said Clermount Bouton, a long-time New Hampshire resident.
A new NBC News-Marist poll released this afternoon shows Sanders with a slim lead over Buttigieg. Warren and Biden re more than 10-points behind.
The poll also indicates more than one-in-five voters could change their minds. That means there's a lot riding on Friday night's showdown, before Tuesday's primary vote.
"So I have no idea what's going to happen, i'm just crossing my fingers that we don't screw it up ...all laugh.." said voter Pat Hammond.
It's a hope shared by all the Democrats who want to be President.
The debate airs on ABC tonight at 6 p.m. MST/5 p.m. PST. KYMA.com will also offer a livestream.
