Candidates three out of seven: Blanca Morales, Gilberto Manzanarez, Raul Ureña running for Calexico City Council

Blanca Morales, Gilberto Manzanarez and Raul Ureña are running for a seat at the Calexico City Council - Karina Bazarte reports.

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Only two seats are open for Calexico city council and these candidates are ready to give their all.

Blanca morales, Gilberto Manzanarez and Raul Ureña are all in the running .

They say their main focuses are to provide for the community in Calexico by improving downtown, housing and transportation.

“I want to be in a position where I have that authority and a policy maker to be able to help the entire community of Calexico,” said Blanca Morales, Calexico city council candidate.

Candidate Gilberto Manzanarez is the youngest runner.

“We are trying to make a change and implement new faces new ideas and initiatives and this is the most effective way in implementing them which is getting younger newer people involved in our city council," said Gilberto Manzanarez, Calexico city council candidate.

Raul Ureña running for re-election

"I was elected two years ago with a big promise and electoral mandate to bring big changes to the city of Calexico. I think we delivered on that," said Ureña.

What inspire these candidates.

“Being in healthcare we see a lot patients that are homeless, we see a lot of patients that don’t have jobs so I had to learn the system on how I can help outside of the clinic," said Blanca Morales.

“What inspire me to run, it come about as a product of the pandemic, during the pandemic we saw are local government not taking into consideration needs and the struggles of working class citizens, those who live paycheck to paycheck,” said Manzanarez.

“A political atmosphere, that was stacked against me the moment I walked in there, not only be able to turn the tie but thrive and make sure the at priorities are actually getting done,” said Ureña.
