A fiery crash shuts down busy highway in North Carolina for hours

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (NBC, KYMA) - A busy North Carolina highway was shut down for hours this morning, after a fiery crash with a tractor trailer.

It happened on Highway 11 in Pitt County around 7:00 a.m.

Police say a tractor trailer from a metal recycling company flipped on its side at the intersection and caught fire.

Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash. Police say one person had non life threatening injuries.

The highway was able to completely reopen Friday afternoon, after the wreckage was finally removed.

No word yet on what caused the crash.
