Boat flies off back of truck, smashes into oncoming car

BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada (CBS, KYMA) - A routine road trip turned into something "traumatic" for British Columbia woman Ingrid Achterberg and family recently when a poorly secured boat flipped off the back of an oncoming truck and smashed into her car.

Achterberg told Storyful she was driving near 70 Mile House in the Cariboo region last week when her "calm" outing was ended abruptly by the flying boat.

Achterberg's dashcam shows the close-call moment, as the boat hits her car. She is, however, able to reassure her daughter Erica that everything is okay as she pulls over.

Erica, whose own daughter was also in the car, told Storyful they were joking with relief when the boat owner came back, feeling lucky to be alive after such a "near-death experience."

However, "a week later," she said they were getting some therapy, with "massage and physio appointments coming."
