Vince Zampella, ‘Call of Duty’ creator, dies in car crash

(NBC, KYMA) - The video game developer behind the massively popular "Call Of Duty" franchise has died in a car crash while driving his Ferrari in California.

Vince Zampella died Sunday in a car crash on Southern California's Angeles Crest Highway.

It was reported shortly before 1:00 p.m. Pacific. Police say the car veered off the road just after exiting a tunnel, hit a concrete barrier and a passenger was ejected.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Zampella was trapped in the ensuing car fire.

He died at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the identity of the passenger.

Electronic Arts, a game studio where Zampella developed multiple games, confirmed his death in a statement saying that it was "an unimaginable loss."

Zampella was 55-years-old.
