Two dead in plane crash in Massachusetts

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (CBS, KYMA) - At least two people were killed when small plane crashed and burst into flames on a median strip of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts Monday morning, according to news reports.

Massachusetts State Police said they received a call around 8:15 a.m. Eastern about a fixed-wing plane that crashed in the median near Exit 19.

Authorities say the crash killed two people on board and injured one person on the ground.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said both sides of the highway are closed at Exit 22.

State police said preliminary information indicates the plane may have been trying to land at New Bedford Regional Airport, though it "does not appear that the pilot provided the Airport with a flight plan or the number of souls aboard the aircraft."

Footage captured by a CBS affiliate in Rhode Island shows a damaged car at the scene, but it is unclear if any vehicles were involved in the crash.
