SACRAMENTO, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - New video has emerged showing the moment a medical helicopter crashed onto a major highway in Sacramento, California Monday.

The video shows the low-flying aircraft drop in altitude before plunging onto the eastbound lanes onto Highway 50 shortly after 7:00 p.m.

According to authorities, the chopper had just completed a patient drop-off at a nearby hospital when it suffered an "in-air emergency" on its return to base.

Three crew members were on board: A pilot, a nurse and a paramedic. They were all critically injured.

Upon arrival, crews learned that one person was trapped underneath the helicopter.

A group of around 15 bystanders rushed in to help first responders lift the helicopter off the trapped person.
