At least one dead in small plane crash in California

(NBC, KYMA) - At least one person is dead in a small plane crash in mountainous terrain east of California's Silicon Valley.

Cal Fire crews hiked up to the crash site after reports the plane went down Friday at around 2:30 p.m. Pacific.

It took about an hour for them to find the debris field, which is extensive and the impact was so intense the plane's make and model is impossible to identify.

First responders located the remains of at least one victim and are waiting for the coroner and eventually NTSB investigators to arrive.

The crash happened in the Del Valle area about seven miles east of Mount Hamilton, in the Mount Diablo mountain range east of San Jose.
