IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a crash which left one person dead and three people injured.
In a press release, the incident happened at around 12:05 p.m. Saturday in the Superstition Off-Highway Recreational Area near Wheeler Road.
CHP says a 64-year-old man was driving a black 2023 Can Am "in a westerly direction at an unknown speed," but the black 2023 Can Am crashed into a tan 2023 Can Am also driving in a "westerly direction."
CHP says the vehicles overturned following the crash, with the driver of the black Can Am suffering major injures while the passenger, a 61-year-old woman, was pronouced dead at the scene.
At the same time, the driver of the tan Can Am, a 26-year-old man, suffered minor injuries while the passenger, a 29-year-old woman, suffered major injuries, CHP says.
While the Imperial County Coroner's Office responded to the area and took the woman's body, both the driver of the black Can Am and the passenger of the tan Can Am were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center. However, the driver of the tan Can Am was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, according to CHP.
