Bicyclist flown to Phoenix hospital after car crash on County 16th Street

Case ongoing after car hit bicycle which was riding along the road shoulder

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A bicyclist was hit by a car and was later flown to Phoenix, according to Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO).

At about 6:43 a.m. on February 28, YCSO received a report of a vehicle hitting a bicycle on County 16th St. and S. Ave. A 1/4.

YCSO says a Chevrolet Captiva and a bicyclist were eastbound on W. County 16th St. when the Captiva hit the bicycle.

The 41-year-old man riding the bicycle was taken to Onvida Health with serious injuries and was later flown to a Phoenix hospital.

The case is under investigation.

YCSO says neither speed or impairment are a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call YCSO at 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
