Driver arrested after fleeing from car crash on Avenue A
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A man was arrested after fleeing on foot from a car crash scene that left one with serious injuries, according to Yuma Police Department (YPD).
On January 13, at about 12:14 p.m., officers were called about a car crash on Avenue A and 4th St.
On their Facebook page, YPD was asking drivers to avoid the area, use caution and watch for "emergency personnel" on scene.
Initial investigation by police revealed a 29-year-old man was driving a 2015 Mazda 3 westbound on 5th Street. The driver didn't stop, resulting in a crash with a 1992 Ford F250, driven by a 61-year-old man.
YPD says the driver of the Ford was ejected by the crash as the vehicle rolled over, causing him to be taken to a Phoenix hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Mazda, a 20-year-old man, fled on on foot but was later found by officers. He was then taken to Onvida Health with moderate injuries.
YPD confirms a passenger was in the Mazda and had minor injuries but refused treatment.
Speed and alcohol appear to be a factor, according to YPD.
