PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) — A former longtime member of law enforcement in Maine is accused of sexually abusing a child.

Andrew Belisle, 71, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, one count of unlawful sexual touching and one count of unlawful sexual contact. Prosecutors say the allegations involve a 14-year-old child between June 2019 and October 2020.

Belisle worked for the Kennebunk Police Department for nearly 30 years before retiring in April 2020. He then worked part-time for the department from August 2020 until December 2021 as administrative support in a non-sworn capacity.

The case is being handled in Cumberland County after it was referred to prosecutors there from York County.

Belisle was free on personal recognizance.
