EASTON, Massachusetts (WCVB) — A 12-year-old boy from Massachusetts who has a talent for making delicious desserts received a tremendous opportunity to put his skills to the test.

Jason Chan, an Easton resident, is one of 12 contestants on the latest season of “Kids Baking Championship.” He is the first kid from Massachusetts to appear on the Food Network show.

“The best experience of my life because it’s been my dream for the longest time,” Chan said.

Chan started baking at a young age and said he loves seeing people’s reactions to trying his desserts.

“It’s also spreading love toward the people that you love and it shows how much you appreciate them,” he said.

This season of “Kids Baking Championship” features a new twist, as the show will test the contestants’ business savvy on top of their skills in the kitchen. Chan runs a home bakery business called JJ’s Kitchen and was up against 11 other children who each have their own baking business.

“It was really fun meeting other kids who have the same interests as me,” Chan said. “I learned that it’s harder than it looks on TV.”

Chan said he cherishes the apron he wore during the tapings of “Kids Baking Championship.” That apron was signed by the hosts and judges of the show: actress Valerie Bertinelli and pastry chef Duff Goldman, star of the Food Network reality show “Ace of Cakes.”

“I would love to turn this hobby into a profession. And I want to have my own cooking show on Food Network. That sounds so cool!” Chan said.

Season 11 of “Kids Baking Championship” premieres at 8 p.m. Monday on Food Network. Chan and the other 11 contestants will be competing for a $25,000 grand prize and a spot in Food Network Magazine on top of the title of Kids Baking Champion.
