Karina Bazarte – MMJ
Karina Bazarte is an Emmy-award winning multimedia journalist who was recognized by the California State senator Steve Padilla.
She joined KYMA in September 2022 as a multimedia journalist for the Imperial Valley and is also the weekend anchor.
Working her first reporting job, Karina graduated from San Diego State University in 2022, where she majored in journalism and minored in Spanish.
While at SDSU, Karina was a radio host at KCR SDSU, President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Assistant Editor of The Daily Aztec Mundo Azteca where she created the first Spanish broadcast at SDSU.

Prior to attending SDSU, Karina started her college career at San Diego Mesa College where she was part of the newspaper and pioneered the podcast, "Something Newsy."
Coming from two immigrant parents, her dream is to be the voice for the voiceless.
She started her own podcast on Spotify called “The Bazarte Show.”
Originally from San Diego, California, Karina loves sports, especially soccer and football.
Her favorite soccer teams are Liverpool and America, and her favorite football team are the Chargers.
Karina also loves to travel and to listen to true crime podcasts and documentaries. She loves music, the show Stranger Things and Selena Quintanilla. She also loves to watch her team Liverpool football club play.
