YPD arrests suspect for armed robbery and attempted armed robbery
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Police Department (YPD) arrested a 31-year-old Yuma man for armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
In a press release, the armed robbery took place at around 8:00pm Monday night when officers responded to a report of a theft of a stolen vehicle occurring in the area of S. Arizona Avenue and E. 21st Street.
YPD says the suspect, 31-year-old Tyler Utley, was holding a rifle and demanding the victim, a 30-year-old man, to hand over the keys to the victim's gray Honda Pilot and took off.
YPD also said that they responded to an attempted robbery almost an hour after the Honda Pilot theft, to Kneaders in the Yuma Palms area. A 20-year-old woman was working a drive-thru when Utley, driving the Honda Pilot, drove up to the window and demanded money.
However, when the woman refused, Utley reached for his rifle, but the woman ran away and Utley drove away.
YPD said that at around 10:23pm, officers found the Honda Pilot and arrested Utley. YPD later booked Utley on "numerous felony charges for both cases."
Utley is being held on a one million dollar bond.Utley is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday June 22.
