Reinstatement ordered for Oklahoma officers who fatally shot unarmed Black man

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) — Two southwest Oklahoma police officers who fatally shot an unarmed Black man have been ordered by an arbitrator to be reinstated. An attorney for Officers Robert Hinkle and Nathan Ronan said Wednesday that the two are to be reinstated with back pay. The two were fired following the 2021 shooting death of Quadry Sanders while investigating reports of a man waving a gun inside a home. Manslaughter charges against the officers say Sanders was unarmed. Defense Attorney Gary James for both Hinkle and Ronan has said they thought Sanders was reaching for a gun. In a statement to KSWO-TV, the city said it is disappointed with the ruling, and is reviewing its legal options.
