The Healing Journey hosts the 2023 Women’s Empowerment Conference

The conference provided tools to empower women with methods of stress relief, how to stay positive and fight through adversity

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Healing Journey, a trauma recovery center in Yuma hosted the 2023 Women's Empowerment Conference at the MLK Center Friday.

Estrella Fitch, CEO and Founder of the Healing Journey said the goal of the conference is to inspire women to move forward, boost self-esteem to learn from others who have overcome difficult situations.

"That they don't have to stay where they think they feel they need to stay. They can grow," said Fitch.

Elected officials and sexual abuse survivors spoke about their experiences and achieving success.

"You know there is a quote that if you don't tell your story how will someone know you survived it and so sharing is a way that you heal yourself. At the same time while someone says you know they went through it, I can go through it," said Fitch.

About 140 women came to show their support as well as local organizations such as Crossroads Mission, Amberly's Place, Mary Kay, ARIZONA@WORK and more.

Fitch said she hopes the women at the conference is able to see the resources available and that they are not alone.

"There's so many people here that are willing to take you and help you grow and The Healing Journey is part of that," said Fitch. "We want you to grow. We don't want you to stay feeling victimized or as a trauma victim. The goal here is to show you there's resources for you, for your family. You have single moms struggling everyday. It's a community that's fighting to get women to move forward," continues Fitch.

Fitch invites victims and survivors of abuse to The Healing Journey with open arms.

"We focus on your healing. We're not gonna focus on the crime that was committed against you because let's be honest, it was a crime that was committed against you. Our focus is to get you through it and not walk in front of you but beside you. That's our goal," reiterated Fitch.
