Man found with gunshot wounds in Calipatria
CALIPATRIA, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Still no leads after Friday's shooting in Calipatria. Residents are concern as the small town is known to be safe
The shooting happened friday afternoon on east avenue church street.
Police say when they arrived at the scene they found a 42-year-old man who was shot twice in his torso.
“Suspects fled the area, so we don’t have any suspects at the time,” said Sgt. Eric Travino.
The victim was flown to a trauma center out of Imperial County Where he's in stable condition.
Police say this usually doesn't happen in the city.
“Calipatria is a calm area, it's a small community... so everyone knows everybody... so there is a cohesiveness of the community, so when something like this happens it’s unusual,” said Sgt. Eric Travino.
But police say there has been a recent increase in shootings in the past six months.
“We have had several other incidents of shootings that have been involved here in Calipatria... so yeah unfortunately... it’s like a trend that is unfortunately happening which we don’t like to see,” said Sgt. Eric Travino.
A man was shot around the area of East Avenue and Church Street in Calipatria and suffered from gunshot wounds.
A resident says he grew up in Calipatria all his life and the town has always been safe
But recently he is concern with all the shootings.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Police are looking for at least one suspect but they don't have a description.
