Standford facing wrongful death lawsuit; college athlete suicide
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - The family of a soccer star who committed suicide is suing the university where she was a student.
Katie Meyer's family is suing Stanford University and several administrators.
The lawsuit says she received an email from the school about impending disciplinary action.
It reportedly accused her of spilling coffee on a football player, who allegedly had sexually assaulted her teammate.
According to the lawsuit, Meyer responded to the email by saying she was shocked and distraught.
She killed herself that night.
A university spokesperson says the school empathizes with the family, but denies any wrongdoing.
