Senator Sinema questions Secretary Mayorkas about Title 42

Kyrsten Sinema

WASHINGTON (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema questioned Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about Title 42.

In a press release, Sinema asks Mayorkas how they will handle and manage the anticipation migration surge due to Title 42's termination on December 21.

Sinema also mentioned how the administration hasn't been addressing the ongoing crisis at the Southwest border during the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Hearing.

“The Administration’s continued failures on the border puts Arizona communities, and our national security, at risk. The ongoing influx of migrants puts serious strain on CBP resources, and forces Border Patrol Agents out of the field and into processing and administrative roles. It is obvious that the current strategy being implemented at our Southwest Border is not working, and change is necessary,” said Sinema, a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Senator Sinema has also brought up the migration issues at the border to DHS officials and how the lack of comprehensive planning and investments can harm Arizona communities and migrants, including local nonprofits, the press release mentioned.

Sinema also suggested to Secretary Mayorkas to have a plan in place as Title 42 will end and talked about her Bipartisan Border Solutions Act that will help the border crisis, security, communities, and migrants.
