Amazon joins healthcare business; launches virtual clinic

(CNN, KYMA/ KECY) - Amazon is getting into the healthcare business.

Tuesday the online retailer launched a virtual clinic to treat common health conditions.

The company says the service, Amazon Clinic, will focus on affordable care for those who need treatment for conditions such as allergies, acne and hair loss.

The service links customers to "Licensed and qualified telehealth providers" from Amazon's list.

Patients will then speak to doctors through a message-based portal, where the doctor will send a treatment plan.

If the customer needs prescriptions, the doctor will send them to the patient's choice of pharmacy.

No word on how much the service will cost and Amazon does not accept insurance.

The clinic will be available in 32 states, but Amazon says it hopes to expand it in the coming months.
