FDA advisors push back talks of possible of over-the-counter birth control pill
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Advisors for the U.S. Food, Drug and Administration (FDA) have delayed their discussion of a potential over-the-counter birth control pill.
On Wednesday, the drugmaker 'Perrigo' said the advisory committee postponed its November meeting, where they were expected to discuss 'Opill'.
Opill is a non-estrogen contraceptive women can take once a day to prevent pregnancy.
Right now it must be prescribed, but Perrigo has submitted the drug for over-the-counter approval.
If approved, Opill would be the first daily birth control pill available over the counter.
Perrigo said the FDA postponed the meeting so it could review additional information related to the potential move.
