Sun Devils ride into Stanford on emotional high

After stunning #21 Washington on October 8th, Sun Devils hope momentum carries on after bye week

TEMPE, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - The Sun Devils picked up the first win for Interim Head Coach Shaun Aguano in style, putting up 45 points on the #21 Washington Huskies on October 8th, the most Washington had allowed since Sept. 6, 2014. Freshman placekicker Carter Brown accounted for nine of those points, converting on his only field goal and going a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.

Carter's day earned him his second Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week in only six weeks at the collegiate level, previously receiving the recognition back in week one after the 40-3 victory over NAU. He becomes the 20th specialist to win a Player of the Week award since Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Shawn Slocum arrived in Tempe back in 2015. Read more about Brown's award-winning weekend.

Arizona State moved the ball into Washington territory on their first possession of the game, but the drive stalled at the 36-yard line. Coach Aguano was then presented with a decision, play the field position battle or give the freshman kicker a shot at a career-long. He trusted the leg of Brown and that faith was rewarded, as Brown split the uprights on a 53-yard field goal to get the Sun Devils on the board. Brown did not miss any of his six extra points the remainder of the game, with his nine-point output proving to be a huge difference in the Sun Devils 45-38 win.
