(CNN) - An elected official in Clark County, Nevada who allegedly murdered a local reporter appeared in court Tuesday but his hearing was continued.

Public administrator Rob Telles is accused of fatally stabbing Las Vegas review journal investifative reporter Jeff German outside German's home on September 2.

Police say the 69-year-old had been stabbed multiple times.

DNA found under German's fingernails as well as surveillance footage helped link Telles to the crime.

Police say Telles was waiting for German and the murder was deliberate and premeditated.

Telles is facing a charge of murder with a deadly weapon with additional penalties due to the victim's age.
