Department of Justice continues handing out subpoenas in midst of Trump probes
(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - The Department of Justice has issued dozens of subpoenas in the last week related to former President Donald Trump and the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol.
According to a source, the subpoenas include Trump's associates and the court orders seek information about the actions of the former President, his allies, and efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The New York Times cited people familiar with the investigation saying that one of Trump's advisors was one of the people whose phone was seized.
In January, the committee subpoenaed three other Trump associates - Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, and Sidney Powell.
The Justice Department is also involved in another legal battle with Trump and his attorneys over documents retrieved during the FBI's search of the former President's estate in early August.
Trump's attorneys have asked a judge to continue blocking the Justice Department from reviewing the documents - some of which include classification markings.
