Sheriff’s deputies rescue missing Yuma man from Kofa Wildlife Refuge
Man spent four-days stranded in the desert
YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Yuma man is safe and sound after spending four days stranded in his vehicle in the Kofa Wildlife Refuge.
77-year-old Gregory Manary left his home last Saturday to meet a friend at a campsite, but never arrived. Calls to Manary's cell phone went unanswered.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office's (YCSO) Search and Rescue started looking for Manary as soon as it got the missing persons report. U.S. Border Patrol rescue units, Fish and Wildlife agents, and Arizona Department of Public Safety Rangers also joined the search.
Two days of scouring the desert on the ground, and in the air, finally paid off Wednesday afternoon. That's when search teams found Manary's vehicle stuck in a wash about a quarter mile north of the North Star Mine.
Manary was inside. He was dehydrated and suffering from minor injuries. Paramedics flew him to a hospital in Glendale for treatment.
