New report reveals list of missed chances to avoid Uvalde school shooting

(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - A new report released Wednesday lists the missed chances to save the victims in the Uvalde, Texas school shooting.

The report was conducted by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training, or ALERRT, center.

The assessment was created using school video, third-party video, body cameras and verbal testimony from officers and statements from investigators.

Officials say there were three missed opportunities to slow or stop the Uvalde school shooter.

First, the school was on an active lockdown, but the gunman was still able to enter the classroom.

According to ALERRT, the lock to one of the classrooms was never engaged.

Second, ALERRT says there were too many teams of law enforcement in the school, which created a crossfire situation.

And finally, the report indicated that the officers inside the school lost momentum.

The gunman went on to kill 19 students and two teachers inside a classroom before authorities breached the classroom more than an hour later.
