Agents find over 120 pounds of meth in suitcase in Gila Bend
Four children were inside a vehicle when agents discovered the meth
GILA BEND, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - US Border Patrol says agents found over 120 pounds of meth in the back of a car in Gila Bend. Four children were also in the car during the vehicle inspection.
Agents of the Ajo Station stopped a Honda Odyssey around the area of Interstate 8 and State Route 85 on June 16, according to a press release.
Four children under the age of seven were in the car along with the driver.
A K-9 pointed agents towards the back of the car where a suitcase was found with over 150 packages of meth inside.
Over $600, a pistol and ammunition were also found within the vehicle.
“Smugglers continue to exploit vulnerable populations both inside and outside the United States,” began Chief John Modlin of the Tucson Sector. “Smugglers promise easy cash in exchange for a quick trip to the border, but agents and officers are on the lookout for suspicious vehicles. Thankfully, these agents prevented over 120 pounds of methamphetamine from making its way into communities throughout the United States.”
The press release stated the children in the vehicle were taken to a different family member.
