YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Western College announces four recruits who graduated from the Detention Officer Training Academy.

The four recruits from Yuma County Sheriff's Office completed an eight-week program on May 26, 2022.

Yazmin Alatorre, Christian Camacho, Pete Corral, and Michelle Grado were the first four to graduate the academy, with Grado achieving the highest average score for the written exam and Camacho receiving the highest average score on the physical fitness test.

Nate Dusek, Coordinator for the Law Enforcement Training Academy, helped lead the program said some encouraging words for the recruits.

“We are excited to graduate the inaugural class of AWC‘s Detention Officer Training Academy. This program has been in the process for over a year. To have the first class graduate is a milestone and speaks to the tremendous partnership between AWC and local law enforcement,” expressed Dusek.
