Semi-truck swerves into opposite lane, loses control on I-8, Mtn Springs Rd

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A semi-truck hauling a trailer full of wood swerved into the opposite lane and lost control causing an all-lane closure leaving wood scattered across Interstate 8.

On Tuesday, at about 11:11 a.m., 39-year-old Edgar Lopez-Beltran was driving a 2016 International Big Rig and hauling a trailer filled with wood.

Lopez-Beltran was headed eastbound at Mountain Springs Road.

For reasons still being investigated, Lopez-Beltran went into the opposite lane and crashed into the metal guard rail.

After the crash, could not maintain control of his big rig and overturned.

As a result, the wood inside of the trailer was dumped in eastbound lanes causing an all-lane closure.

According to California Highway Patrol, the crash caused a four to five-hour closure for pickup.

Lopez-Beltran had his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Impairment was not a factor in the crash.

This case remains under investigation.
