Study shows limiting salt intake can reduce the risk of heart failure

(KYMA, KECY) - Strict limits on salt intake can boost quality of life for people dealing with heart failure.

A new study published in the journal The Lancet finds a slower progression of the disease among those who controlled salt intake combined with nutritional counseling over a year's time.

However, the research did not show a significant difference in hospitalizations, deaths, or emergency room visits of people who did or did not control sodium.

More than 800 people in six countries with chronic heart failure were followed - who were either getting regular care or put on a low-sodium diet.
